Privacy Policy
Last updated — May 1, 2026
Trace is built by Mehmet Heleteli, an independent developer based in Prague.
Summary
Trace does not collect, transmit, or store any of your personal data on any server. Everything you create in Trace stays on your device.
What Trace stores
All notes, entities, tags, and graph data you create in Trace are stored locally on your device using Apple's Core Data framework, inside an App Group container shared between the Trace app and its widget. This data never leaves your device.
What Trace does not do
- Trace has no user accounts, no login, and no registration
- Trace does not connect to any backend server
- Trace does not include any third-party analytics, tracking, or advertising SDKs
- Trace does not collect crash reports beyond what Apple provides through the standard App Store crash reporting system, which you control through your device's privacy settings
- Trace does not sync your notes to iCloud or any other cloud service
In-app purchases
Trace offers optional paid upgrades (monthly subscription, yearly subscription, or one-time lifetime purchase) processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. Trace receives only the transaction information needed to unlock paid features on your device. Apple's privacy practices govern the purchase process; see Apple's Privacy Policy for details.
On-device intelligence
Trace uses Apple's on-device language and embedding frameworks (NLTagger, NLEmbedding, and Apple Foundation Models) to extract entities and find connections between your notes. All of this processing happens entirely on your device. No note content is sent to Apple, to me, or to any third party.
Children's privacy
Trace does not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children under 13.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a future version of Trace, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a new "Last updated" date.
